The City Centre project features the first building in Tompkins County to be awarded an Enhanced Tax Abatement by achieving 40% more energy efficiency than building code through the use of cutting-edge insulation methods, full electrification of appliances, and the innovative use of recycled materials. While leading the municipal approvals, WPD worked with the City of Ithaca to provide a generous public streetscape consisting of large shade trees, specialty paving, and outdoor dining. The project’s site design considers both the densely urban and natural creek landscapes on either side of the site. The lushly planted slope between the green roof and the adjacent street sits above the building’s garage. Another planted eighth-floor terrace includes a patio space with a custom-designed pergola, pedestal paving, outdoor cooking, and a gathering space overlooking the Commons with views of Cayuga Lake.
WPD worked with Humphreys & Partners Architects, T.G. Miller Engineers, Purcell Construction Corporation, Taitem Engineers, RD Jones, Beardsley Architects and Engineers, and EC4B Engineering on this project. The client for City Centre is Newman Development Group, LLC.
