Our role in the Downtown Arts District development started with a successful Greater Binghamton Fund application and evolved to become several projects, including an improved streetscape. Working with Barton & Loguidice, WPD designed improvements that prioritize public spaces, public art, and pedestrian infrastructure, leading to a unified and memorable arts district. Said improvements include supportive wayfinding throughout the district, sculptural gateways, and on-street intersection murals. To enhance pedestrian safety and provide spaces for green infrastructure, curb bump-outs are strategically placed at district gateways, near entrances to major arts institutions, and along gallery-filled streets, encouraging sidewalk dining. Parking garage improvements are designed with district visitors in mind, while custom lighting celebrates the local arts organizations in the district and generates an ambient atmosphere for pedestrians and motorists alike.
