The Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) for the City of Elmira called for the re-imagining of downtown Elmira’s riverfront. Working with Hunt EAS as project lead, WPD designed and implemented transformative improvements to four sites: (1) Clemens Square where future festivals, concerts, and markets will be held; (2) Mark Twain Riverfront Park improvements including a walkway overlooking the river with outdoor gathering spaces; (3) 100 West Water Street mixed-use infill development project featuring active ground floor commercial uses, residences, and outdoor amenity areas; and (4) aesthetic updates to the Centertown Garage to support downtown businesses and the adjacent performing arts space. Our site design features wayfinding elements, custom-designed locust bench seating, a multi-use stage area, custom paving patterns, attractive overhead lighting, and a year-round water plaza.
