The Willow Island Enhancements project is located on an island in the Grasse River only steps from the Village of Canton’s downtown. Partially funded by the NYS-DOS, the project is planned as an arts-themed waterfront park, both performance and sculpture. that balances the ecological preservation of the island with public access to this spectacular site. Program elements include an outdoor performance space, reimagining the sculpture garden, a nature-themed play area, restroom facilities, and restoration of native plantings. In addition to the Village of Canton, local non-profit Grasse River Heritage is a stakeholder of the project and owns half of the island. Whitham Planning Design Landscape Architecture is leading the local stakeholder engagement process and providing site design through construction phase services. The project is currently scheduled to be completed in Spring 2025.
